THE VIEW -- Which Quickr Services Are Right for You?

There are two different types of offerings for IBM Lotus Quickr: IBM Lotus Quickr services for IBM Lotus Domino and IBM Lotus Quickr services for IBM WebSphere Portal. Determining what makes sense for your collaboration environment can be overwhelming. To help administrators and IT managers decide which set of services is best for them, I decided to clearly map out the similarities and differences between the two services. Explore the capabilities and features shared by both products and then delve into the business and technical details that are unique to each.

Before getting started, you may want to familiarize yourself with the current Quickr versions.

At the time of this writing, the current version of Quickr services for Domino is 8.2, and the current version of Quickr services for WebSphere Portal is 8.1.1. Both versions provide users with a sleeker interface and new connectors.

Lotus Quickr Entry is a personal edition of Quickr that includes the desktop connectors and personal file sharing template capabilities of Lotus Quickr. This version is available to “entitled Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Web Access users at no additional charge,” according to the IBM Web site. Lotus Quickr Entry is for an individual’s use and is really about sharing files, which can reside locally or on a server. This version does not include any of the automated functionality or advanced benefits of Quickr, such as calendars or the ability to use other templates.
