Learn how to extend IBM Lotus Quickr's search functionality with the Google Search Appliance, allowing for cross-application searches and providing content security so that users only find results for items to which they have access.

In today's business environment, any employee can generate important information using many different tools. Consumers of that information not only have more content to sift through, but more content sources and content types to manage. The ability to quickly find key information is more challenging than ever.
IBM Lotus Quickr not only enables everyone to create content, it also enables your company to assemble entire teams based on common threads such as interests or department. Extending IBM Lotus Quickr to the Google Search Appliance helps you to index your information and secure search content, preventing users from receiving search results for content to which they do not have access. This also enables your IBM Lotus Quickr content to be available among search results from other enterprise applications.
To help you understand the benefits of externalizing IBM Lotus Quickr's search, I'll first examine the need for the enterprise search. Then I'll explore searching with both IBM Lotus Quickr and the Google Search Appliance. You'll learn not only how to extend IBM Lotus Quickr with the Google Search Appliance, but also ways to secure your search content. Please note, the source code I provide relates specifically to IBM Lotus Quickr 8.1 services for IBM Lotus Domino. However, you can modify it to work with all IBM Lotus Domino versions of IBM Lotus Quickr, including IBM Lotus QuickPlace.
